Reading Skills
For Kids:
Reading skills is another name for reading comprehension. It's important to understand what you are reading. Reading is not only fun, it's informational. Some of that information can be accurate or inaccurate, logical or illogical. There is a lot of fiction written every day. Some is written to entertain. But some is written to deceive. The better you can comprehend what you read, the more you can enjoy, learn, and protect yourself and others.
Read these stories and see if you can answer the questions based on your reading. You can do it!

Making Inferences and Drawing Conclusions:
Making Inferences - An inference is an assumed fact based
on what you are reading or seeing. It can be accurate or inaccurate, logical or
illogical.
Example: Read: I sleep in a crib. Inference: I do not
sleep in a bed.
Drawing Conclusions - Making inferences helps us to
draw conclusion. It's the next step. When you combine information from what you
read and what you already know, you can make a conclusion about what is not
clearly stated. You could be wrong. It's still an educated guess, but it's a
guess based on known facts.
Example: Read: I sleep in a crib.
Conclusion: I am probably a baby.
